It’s a big decision knowing whether or not to go to university. You may have initially decided against studying a degree after school but now changed your mind. Or perhaps you have taken a little break and now feel ready to enter higher education.
Whatever the reason, it’s never too late. And if you’re applying to join Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) after 30 June, you’ll be entering via Clearing, which is open from 5 July until 20 October. So how do you get started?
There are lots of reasons to consider applying to university through Clearing. It may be that you’ve changed your mind about studying a degree, whether after school or after a hiatus. You may not have had any offers from your existing university choices, or it could be that you didn’t meet the offer conditions. Clearing springs your degree options wide open, enabling you potentially to make your best-ever decision!
What to prepare
You don’t have to wait for Results Day to get the Clearing process started – in fact, as lines will likely be very busy on Results Day, we’d recommend getting ahead of the game! Get as organised as possible, with the following things on hand:
- Your grades: If you’ve had your results already, have your grades to hand when you get in touch. You can check our entry requirements for more information.
- Personal statement: We want to know about you. Are you an artist or an activist? A designer or a disruptor? Your personal statement will tell us what kind of student you’re going to be. Have it at the ready when you come through Clearing.
- Know the correct contacts: You can be the first in the queue to join AUB through Clearing with the right numbers and email addresses:

What not to worry about just yet
At any stage of a university application, you’re going to have a lot on your plate. When entering through Clearing, it’s okay if you don’t know everything, and there are some things you can afford to think about once you’ve joined us. Things like:
- Career destinations: Of course, it’s great to have an idea of what job role or industry you’d like to enter off the back of your degree. But while you’re studying, that might change. You may even discover a new talent or specialism that flips that career idea on its head!
- Where you’ll live: If you’re moving away from home, perhaps for the first time, one of the biggest questions is bound to be where you’ll live while studying. Accommodation is guaranteed at AUB, but again, it’s something you can tackle properly once you’re officially joining us.
